St Jacques travel to the league leaders Havant Seconds today, as the two sides meet for the first time this season.
The game was originally scheduled earlier in the season in Guernsey, but was postponed due to adverse weather. Following this the decision was made to switch the fixtures, meaning the Vikings travel today, and Havant will visit the island in March.
Layton Batiste has a lot of his senior players unavailable for the trip, as this weekend was originally a scheduled bye week, meaning many players are off island on holiday or cannot make the game in Havant.
This coupled with a fair sized injury list, a fairly in experienced side will have the task of taking on the runaway league leaders.
Havant Seconds are an established level seven side, but this season they have been boosted following the promotion of their first XV to National Two East, the same league as Guernsey Raiders. Strong recruitment by the club have seen their second XV enjoy much success this season, as they remain unbeaten in Counties 1 Hampshire.
With over 25 players unavailable, Layton Batiste has been able to call on James Webber to step in for the second time this season in the front row. The veteran showed he still had good ability the last time he played, against Trojans.
Vice-captain Chris Croft has picked up an injury which may keep him out for a while, but thankfully Jacob Smith is available this week and he slots in at number 8.
Keiran Williamson returns to the side after missing the last few games. The big young second-row will have a big task on his hands to step up today. He can be a big ball carrier on his day, and his team will need him to bring that today.
In the back-row, Tom Yarwood makes his return for the Vikings. He has recently recovered from injury that kept him out for a few weeks. He was in the Guernsey Raiders squad last weekend.
Ewan Wakeham starts at scrum-half, he has proven to be a bright spark since making his debut at the start of 2025. He partners with captain Tom Veillard.
Kieran Creber returns at fullback, whilst Calum Spinney gets a start on the wing.
Former Academy Colt prop Pierce De Carteret is set to make his debut from the replacements bench.
A former Vikings regular plays his first game in a couple of seasons. Callum Gladstone suffered a series of injuries, but he is now ready to make a comeback. He starts amongst the replacements, but will offer vital experience.
This will be a difficult task for the Vikings, but one in which they can hopefully display their improving defensive work, and have the freedom to play with no pressure.
Kick-off is 1pm.
